ZAMBOANGA CITY A member of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) was fatally shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen in this southern port city, a police official disclosed Monday.
Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director Sr. Supt. Edwin de Ocampo said the incident took place around 11:30 p.m. Sunday in Presa Drive, Barangay Canelar, 1.2 kilometers north of this city.
De Ocampo identified the victim as Technical Sergeant (TSgt.) Cesar Simbi, 42, assigned with PAF's 206th Air Wing, based at the Edwin Andrews Air Base (EAAB) in this city.
Investigation showed the victim was driving his motorcycle on his way home when shot by one of two men riding in tandem on another motorcycle, who appeared from behind, De Ocampo said.
He said Simbi sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the government-run Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC).
He said the members of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) have recovered two empty shells of caliber .45 pistol and two slugs of the same caliber.
De Ocampo said he ordered the ZCPO's Criminal Investigation and Detective Management (CIDM) to conduct thorough investigation to unmask the suspects. (PNA)
