LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu, Feb. 22 (PNA) -- Six Cebuano jins made it to the Philippine national taekwondo team and will be representing the country in the Asian Taekwondo Championships in Vietnam in May.
Veteran jin Glenn Lava was once again chosen to represent the country along with newcomers Mikaela Calamba, Maegan Bugarin, Rinna Babanto, Moses Bullecer and Miguel Calamba in the Taekwondo Poomsae National team after their impressive performances in last Saturdays National Team Evaluation at the Philippine Taekwondo Association headquarters at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Lava is competing in the Senior Mens 2 category; Mikaela will be the representative for the Individual Event in the Female Junior Womens division and will also be in the Pair Event with Manilas Rico Mella and Team Event with fellow Cebuanas Bugarin and Babanto.
Bullecer will team up with Rico and Dustin Mella of Manila in the Junior Mens Team Event, while Miguel will serve as a reserve or alternate player.
Mikaela, Bugarin and Babanto were impressive against 17 other jins from all over the Philippines. Nicole Maurin should have been included in the RP national squad but she was ineligible at the age of 13.
International tournaments require at least a minimum age of 14 years old.
The six Cebuanos will be joining the other members of the RP National Taekwondo Poomsae squad in Manila for training after finishing their classes in March.
They will train under the guidance of visiting Korean Poomsae coach Master Jeong for the Asian Taekwondo Championships, which will start on May 5. (PNA)
