BACOLOD CITY St. Johns Institute defeated Trinity Christian School, 81-60, to retain the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association ( NOPSSCEA) 10-Under basketball tournament for its fifth straight at LNA7 Memorial Sports Center of the West Negros University here Saturday.
Daniel Coo paced SJI Baby Falcons with 15 points as four other teammates also scored in double figures, led by Kurt Coloso, 13; Kyan Andrade, 12; while Vinny Vasquez and Miguel Sarmiento contributed with 10 each.
Trinitys Jeremiah Castro finished with a game-high 22 points and Kenn Joseph Ong added 10 to settle for first runner-up honors, the schools best finish in the tourney.
The Baby Falcons, mentored by Rey Pandoro, lead in the first quarter, 28-10 with Andrei Philip Lechoncito, Coo and Coloso combining for 20 points.
They continued to dominate the game, taking the half, 55-28, with Coo, Coloso and Vasquez again combined for 20 points.
TCS coach Arvin Gustilo said they managed to outscore SJI in the last two quarters, 18-17, and 14-9 , but it was not enough to overhaul the lead of the Baby Falcons. (PNA)
